Author Description <i>[There are multiple Robert Pattersons in the GR database. This is Robert^^^Patterson.]</i><br /><br />Robert Patterson (1898-1981) was a prolific illustrator in both advertising and fashion. Patterson was born in Chicago and attended the Chicago Art Institute. He began his professional career in Chicago, and for some time, directed the Patterson studios there with his brother Loran. In 1922, he came to New York and began doing fashion illustration.<br /><br />His work appeared broadly, and included illustrations for magazines such as <i>Vogue</i>,<i> McCall's</i>, <i>Judge</i>, <i>Snappy Stories</i>, <i>Ladies' Home Journal</i>, <i>Redbook</i>, <i>Woman's Home Companion</i>, <i>American</i>, <i>Cosmopolitan</i>, and <i>American Weekly</i>, as well as advertising assignments and book illustration.
